Ponta de Oura is the southern-most village in Mozambique and is approximately 15 kilometers from the Sa Border. The quiet remoteness has changed the vibe somewhat in the last year after the tarring of the Kosi bay to Catembe Bridge.
Gold mining in Zimbabwe goes back to the second millenia with traces of gold and stories of mining traced back to Mapungubwe in South africa and to Great Zimbabwe. It is an established fact that the early Zimbabweans traded gold with the Arabic slave traders and then with the early Portuguese settlers in Mozambique in the 1500's.
Spurwing Island is about 45 minutes by boat from Charara across the lake. The resort has comfortable accomodation with a bar and dining, area providing communal facilities.
Between Maputo and Inhambane lie many villages that signal the turnoffs to the coastal resorts along the way.

Inhambane lies about 33 kilometers off the Estrada Nacional 1 on the east of a large bay, and 473 kilometers north of Maputo (Lourenco Marques).
