In the later part of the Anglo-Boer War the formal structures of the Boer forces broke up and the guerilla stage of the war commenced .
Set piece battles suited the British Army however were avoided by the Boers who could be overwhelmed by numbers and use of artillery which by now the Boers had relinquished. The Boer Commando’s rather used their superior knowledge of the terrain to conduct hit and run tactics.
The area around Lydenberg and Dullstroom was the scene of many such skirmishes and this gallery has the graves of the men of the Ist Battalion, Manchester Regiment and those of the Middelburg Commando, led by General Christiaan Muller. The site is between Dullstroom and Lydenberg.
Also included in this gallery are commemorations of the Battle of Blood river and Concentration Camp victims.
