05 Feb Rosendal – OFS
If ever travelling in the Eastern Free State with its grand landscapes, one can take a step back in time and experience the small town of Rosendal established in 1911.
The land upon which the town was built was donated by Phillip Botha and named Rosendal by his wife.
The town is the home of a small community of artists, writers and small shops, many of which are selling antiques and memorabilia.
The sandstone NG Kerk dominates the town landscape, along with the lanscapes leading up to the Witteberge and the Maluti mountains. Free range pigs can be seen grazing in the adjacent fields.
A visit to the local cemetery reveals some of the past history, with graves for example of the Botha family and the Ficks, who gave their name to Ficksburg.
