Standerton

Standerton

Standerton, which lies on the banks of the Vaal River war founded in 1878, and named after the Boer leader Commandant A.H. Stander.

The town has numerous guest houses that cater for travellers traversing this region. The Town CBD has Boer War Memorials, but like many smaller towns , it has been neglected by the ruling Municipality. This ANC led Municipality saw fit to desecrate the Voortrekker Centenary Monument which has been partially repaired. The local community have also made their feelings known by way of protest against the lack of service delivery. Perhaps the focus of attention needs to change.

This post has images of the more striking buildings and monuments in the town centre.
