Zimanga Private Game Reserve is situated just north of Mkuze and about 320 kilometers north of Durban on the N2. The reserve is also accessible by air. The Coordinates for the main gate are : 27deg.34min.11sec S and 32deg.00min.10.89sec E.

Port Alfred was established in the 1820's by British Settlers in the Albany County. The town lies on the mouth of the Kowie River and the harbour was established in the 1840's which allowed tall ships to berth in the mouth.

Cecil John Rhodes (1853 - 1902), a controversial individual in South Africa, was born in England, and came out to Natal, before moving up to the newly discovered diamond fields. In his short life he managed to accumulate significant wealth, and enter into politics, becoming the Prime Minister of the Cape Province. He also went on to found Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).

The Concentration camps were set up during the Boer War to prevent the Boer families from providing support to the Commandos in the field. These camps became places of misery with over 26300 Boers dying of diseases in the poorly managed camps.
